When you're starting out, the important thing to focus on during your yoga practice is the balance between body and mind. It is important to remember that classes are not competitions. A good teacher should remind you to never overstretch or overexert yourself, and if you are not feeling able to hold a pose it is never a crime to revert to childs pose for a little while.
