There are many variations to most postures. If you experience pain or discomfort in any posture, remember to stop immediately. Don't force anything; you can find an alternative.
A common alternative is to use yoga blocks or straps as extensions to help ease into a pose. Simply stacking blocks or grasping the strap may be all it takes to give you a little extra flexibility. Make sure to ask your instructor if you think a modified version may be helpful.
