August 31, 2007, Newsletter Issue #152: Communicate With Your Doctor

Tip of the Week

Gaiam Tip: It almost goes without saying, but tell your obstetrician that you practice yoga and that you would like to continue a modified pregnancy yoga practice. If you were a regular yoga practitioner before your pregnancy, you may be able to continue with your regular classes during the first trimester if you don’t have any complications (and if you feel up to it).

But don’t put pressure on yourself to do the same pregnancy yoga workouts while pregnant that you did prior to pregnancy. Even if you aren’t big enough to make most yoga poses a problem, you may simply feel more tired. Listen to your body, and listen to your doctor. If you have special circumstances related to your pregnancy and a doctor advises you to avoid yoga, then avoid it and look forward to resuming your practice after delivery.
